- Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders joined rapper Cardi B for a chat on Instagram Live yesterday, during which they talked about Sanders suspending his campaign, single remaining Democratic candidate Joe Biden, and the coronavirus pandemic.
- Cardi B, who interviewed Sanders last summer, is a longtime supporter of Sanders's presidential bid.
Yesterday, Cardi B spoke about the upcoming presidential election and the ramifications of the COVID-19 crisis in an Instagram Live with Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, or as she affectionately calls him, Uncle Bernie.
Sanders, who suspended his presidential campaign last week, began the interview by first asking the rapper a question: "I want you to take a look at my nails," he said, holding his hands up. "How are they looking?"
Cardi pursed her lips and raised her eyebrows. "They're looking very quarantine," she answered. (She, of course, was sporting her own baby blue acrylics.) "I can tell you've been in quarantine for a while now, with those nails. But you know what? It's okay, Uncle Bernie."
The Bronx native then dove into chatting about the election, expressing how upset she was when she first found out that Sanders had dropped out of the running. "Now, we have 45 and Joe Biden," she said, referring to President Donald Trump's ordinal number. She continued later, "A lot of people like the youth, they don't really rock with Joe Biden because he's conservative," she said. "I want you to tell my platform, why are you endorsing him?"
Sanders answered, "First point is that when I announced that I was running for president and there were like 18 people running, what I said is, 'If I don't win, and I tried hard to win, I will endorse the Democrat who wins, because Donald Trump is—in my mind—the most dangerous president in the modern history of America.' This is a guy who lies all the time. He doesn't believe in science. He downplayed this whole coronavirus, which has led to the deaths of many thousands of people unnecessarily."
This is the second time Cardi B has interviewed the senator. Last summer, the two spoke about education, minimum wage, jobs, and police brutality.
Earlier this month, the rapper also called out those who didn't vote or aren't planning to vote. "Young motherf*ckers, I'm getting sick of y'all. I'm about to start hanging out with my grandma's friends because they vote," she said in a blunt message on Instagram Live. "Y'all motherf*ckers don't vote. ... We got no time to play around."
