Famed performer Ne-Yo, who quietly made music moves in recent years, has been in the headlines after his wife accused him of cheating during their entire relationship.Ne-Yo (real name Shaffer Chimere Smith) allegedly cheated for eight years, though his wife Crystal Renay Smith, who spilled the details, seemingly deleted her Instagram post detailing the drama. At the time of Smith's post, it was unclear whether she was immediately filing for divorce. The deletion of her post also caused speculation; would she go back to Ne-Yo after calling him a narcissist and saying that she was choosing herself over her allegedly unfaithful husband?
Crystal Renay Smith Filed For Divorce From Ne-Yo
Though Crystal didn't specify whether she had actually left Ne-Yo, or if she would be filing for divorce, on social media, she did take legal action.
Per the Los Angeles Times, Ne-Yo's wife filed for divorce and stated that the former couple had separated in late July 2022. The filing stated that the marriage was "irrevocably broken."
The paperwork, filed in Georgia where the former couple resides, was dated August 1st, 2022. Radar Online noted that the divorce papers included a request for Crystal to have primary custody of the children, with Ne-Yo sharing custody.
Smith is also reportedly asking for "temporary and permanent alimony in all forms," including child support and spousal support.
Ne-Yo may have been one of few celebrities who married without a prenup; Crystal's filing includes a request for her to retain the assets she brought into the relationship, with "equitable division" of the property they acquired while married.
Ne-Yo Asked For Privacy Amid The Divorce Filing
Though Crystal's divorce filing alleges that Ne-Yo "recently fathered a minor child," the two share three children, who were born between 2016 and 2018. While the court determines custody and financial matters, the children will likely continue to live with Crystal; according to the documents, the kids already live with their mother.
Ne-Yo took to Twitter to ask for privacy for his family's personal matters and does not appear to have responded to Crystal's social media statements. Nor has he responded to her divorce petition as of publication.
