Queen Letizia Celebrates Spain's Women's Soccer World Cup Win

Spain’s women’s soccer team won its first World Cup this Sunday, defeating England 1–0. The entire country erupted in cheers at the victory, including Queen Letizia, who joined players on the field to accept their golden trophy.

The win at Stadium Australia in Sydney marked the team’s first senior major global title. It also made Spain the first team to hold the under-17, under-20, and senior women’s world titles at the same time. With the victory, Spain joined Germany as the only two nations to have won both the men’s and women’s titles.

Once the referee blew the final whistle, the Spanish players, dressed in red, rushed together to embrace and cry tears of joy—and there with them were the queen and her eldest daughter, Infanta Sofía, 16. The royals hugged and congratulated the soccer stars as golden victory glitter rained down on them.

The queen gave an especially warm hug to Olga Carmona, who scored the winning goal, and who tragically lost her father the same day.

For the big day and to cheer on her home team, the ever-so-stylish Queen Letizia wore a vibrant red suit. The elegant set was composed of a sleek blazer with black buttons and tailored high-waisted wide-leg pants. She paired the red pieces with a black V-neck tee and black leather heeled boots. She wore minimal makeup and had her hair straight down.
