September 2024 · 3 minute read

Twitter is currently not the biggest fan of actress and rapper Awkwafina. Following the announcement of the release date for The Little Mermaid, users erupted after seeing that the Crazy Rich Asians star would be in the film.

Although Awkwafina is not truly hated, Twitter has called out the actress for being in too many films, and that she should not have been cast for the upcoming film. Some have also voiced opinions on her personality, with one user calling her a racist.

The star will voice the character Scuttle in the live-action remake. Talks for her casting began in 2019, when the star told Entertainment Tonight, "Aww man, that all isn't confirmed yet, but obviously if it happens, I would be more than honored." Shortly after this, it was confirmed that she would be part of the film.
